Preschool Enrollment Open at Cooper with Two Full-Day Classes
Posted 3/25/19

Newton (Kan.)—Enrollment for Cooper Early Education Center’s Fall 2019 preschool classes is open. Children must be three or four by August 31. There are additional qualifications families need to meet. If families are interested, they should contact Cooper Early Education Center at (316)284-6510 or stop by in person to pick up an application.

For the first time, Cooper will offer full-day Head Start classes. USD 373 received a Head Start duration grant which made it possible to increase the class time.  This brings the total number of preschool classes offered to two full-day classes and eight half-day classes, with a possibility of a third full-day class through a Preschool Pilot grant. Currently, Cooper offers nine half-day classes. Full-day Head Start classes allow the staff at Cooper to better prepare children for kindergarten.

“It gives us a longer day to make sure kids are safe in an age-appropriate, learning-appropriate environment,” Sarah Livesay, building administrator, said. “It will offer more learning time and allow us to serve another meal to those full-day kids.”

Head Start is just one of the services Cooper offers. They have other preschool services for children ages three to five. Cooper operates a blended model that combines students from Head Start, State PreK and Early Childhood Special Education.

Additionally, Cooper Early Education Center has an Infant Toddler program and Parents as Teachers. The services in the Infant Toddler program are offered to children ages birth to three with developmental delays or disabilities at no cost. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a free, voluntary program designed to assist parents in getting the best possible start in life for their children. For more information about any of the programs, contact Cooper Early Education Center at (316)284-6510.
