NHS wrestler makes national team
Posted 5/2/22

Nick TreasterNewton High School junior Nick Treaster is now on the USA World Team after wrestling at the US Open tournament in Las Vegas over the last couple days.

Treaster, representing the Newton Wrestling Club, won his U17 55kg weight class which qualified his spot on the USA World team.

One person unsurprised by Treaster’s accomplishment is his high school wrestling coach, Tommy Edgmon.

“Nick is a special athlete because he has no off season.  Nick trains year-round to be the best he can be. Off the mat, every decision he makes impacts his performance in a productive way,” Edgmon said.

In February, Treaster won a 5A state title in the 113lb weight class. It was his third straight state title.

“Happy for this young man as he has earned everything through hard work and dedication.  Wrestling is not an easy sport, and Nick excels because he has a work ethic and mind set most athletes do not,” Edgmon said.

Treaster will wrestle in Rome at the end of July 2022.

“I have always wanted to be a part of a USA world team and be able to not only represent my state but also my country against people from all over the world,” Treaster said.
